2009 Most Improved HRTC Triathlete Award – Ingrid Hillhouse
Year end awards were handed out at the Houston Racing Holiday Party last month. One award was not announced as we waited for the award winner to come back to the party. The timing was off but the winner of Most Improved Triathlete 2009 needs special recognition.
She nominated someone else for the award, but another wise member answered the call for nominees and focused the spotlight back on her. She conquered her fear of water long enough to jump into a handful of sprint triathlons in 2008 and finished that season with a leap to the half ironman distance at Ironstar finishing in 6:31:12.
In 2009 she continued her dedication to triathlon and worked on her weakest discipline by being the leader of the Lake Sharks open water swim group. The work paid off as she improved her time at CB&I Triathlon by over 10 minutes and dropped her half ironman time down to 6:00:03.
She saved her best performance for the end of the year and her first ironman at Ironman Florida. She survived the swim in 1:43:30. There were 2,204 folks ahead of her and she passed 563 of them on the bike. The momentum continued on the run as she passed 417 more folks on her way to a strong 4:32:28 marathon and a 12:37:55 debut ironman.
Congrats to Ingrid Hillhouse – 2009 Most Improved Triathlete!
