important information - please read thoroughly

Please note that we will be following USAT's new age group rules, meaning that you will compete in the age group which corresponds to your age on December 31, 2008, NOT your age on race day. You will also need to give the body markers this age for them to memorialize in big, black numbers on the back of your leg on race day. I apologize in advance to any emotional trauma this might cause by requiring people to actually acknowledge they they are about to hit a milestone birthday but haven’t quite yet come to terms with it. I’m still lobbying for the rule that will let us pick an age and compete in that age group forever!

Houston Racing is providing to Cadet entrants the opportunity to train specifically for this race using a training schedule created by Steve Heller, Certified Triathlon Coach and HRTC member. The training schedule is geared to the beginning triathlete with the goal being completion of a sprint triathlon. The schedule is complete, but has been designed with the beginner in mind, and is not overly complex. As a starting point, this program assumes that the user can swim 200 yards, run 2 miles and cycle a minimum of 5-10 miles (under no specific time constraints). The majority of this program is done at an aerobic pace, meaning a level of effort at which one could hold a conversation. A heart rate monitor is not mandatory in order to use the program, but it would be very helpful.

The following schedule is in Excel format and can be downloaded by CLICKING HERE. The starting date for this program is April 21, 2008 and ends July 13, 2008.

In addition to the training program, there is a dedicated topic for Jeff and Brede's Triathlon in the Houston Racing Forums. It can be accessed by CLICKING HERE. This is a great place to post any questions and meet training partners, so stay tuned for more information. Good luck ! (Please Note : You must be a registered, logged-in member of the HRTC Forums for the link to work)

This is a pool swim and swimmers will be seeded according to swim time, fastest to slowest. Please turn in an accurate 300 meter swim time on your entry. Athletes not swimming within one minute of their seed time will be highlighted in the race results and variances from seed times will be posted. If you do not enter a swim time, you will be placed at the end of the seeded athletes. For questions, E-mail the Race Director.

We cannot stress enough the importance of entering an accurate time. If you do not, a LOT of people are going to be upset, and EVERYONE will notice and point you out at every race for the rest of your life. So for Pete's sake, go to a pool before you enter the race, bring a watch, and time yourself. Remember, it's 300 METERS, NOT YARDS. THERE IS A SLIGHT DIFFERENCE (to convert a yard swim time to meters, multiply by 1.1). Then, instead of putting down some random set of numbers on your entry form, you'll put down an accurate time, and everyone will be much happier. It's for your own good.

PLEASE NOTE : YOU WILL BE SEEDED ACCORDING TO THE TIME YOU PUT ON YOUR ENTRY. THE RACE DIRECTOR ALSO RESERVES THE RIGHT TO RESEED YOU IF YOUR SEED TIME IS INCONSISTENT WITH PREVIOUS RACE RESULTS.
